Calvin & Tanner (Tanner above) were surrendered to us from a woman who suffered a serious car accident and had a long recovery ahead of her. We were told that they were a bonded pair, but while in foster care with Michelle, it was clear that they would be just fine each in their own home. And they found wonderful homes! Tanner, now Stanley, was adopted by a friend who had recently lost her dog. Calvin was adopted by the same person who had taken in Lily, a 15 year old JRT Michelle had rescued from Pueblo almost a year before.
Joey was left behind when her owners moved away. They put her in a crate outside on the porch and left. It was winter. Her water bowl was frozen. Her food was frozen. Luckily, a good man, a taxi driver who was dropping off a passenger next door to the house, heard her crying and rescued her. We brought her into foster care with Michelle. After a month of getting to know this playful, youthful girl, she found her just the perfect home with a generous patron of our rescue.
We first learned of Scarlett when she appeared on footage from a feral cat cam set up in an industrial area in Aurora. The cat lady began leaving food for her, but she would never show up if people were around. She might have been out there for months, for sure she weathered the bomb cyclone! With the use of a trap and some careful planning, we finally caught her. We had no idea of her temperament so we were overjoyed when she ran into Cody’s arms when she was let her out of the trap. Barb fostered this energetic young girl until we found her a home in the country with a pitbull experienced owner and a pitbull sister.
Suds was given to us and despite his family giving him up he was a truly happy dog. When he met his new family he just wanted to play and play with the kids. He enjoyed all the handling. What a unique chihuahua, right? Not even a hint of attitude! He was a daddy’s gift to his girls. May you get all the love and care that you deserve, Suds, forever and ever. Leave the past behind.

Herschel’s first mom loved him very much. Toward the end of her life she couldn’t give him exercise, but she could give him food. He weighed 43lbs (a dachshund!) when the family gave him to us after she died. He loved walks from the very minute we got him. The weight will melt away, we are sure. Thyroid medication will help. Audrey and Connor loved Herschel immediately—everybody loves Herschel—and they knew he would be the perfect fit for their family. He has a doxie brother, a great backyard, and loving parents. His first mom would be comforted by his good fortune.
Allie was very loved by her mom who had to make the heartbreaking decision to rehome her for health and financial reasons. She was the perfect dog —stunning, smart, well-trained, loving. We knew whoever adopted her would hit the jackpot. Well, friends of Cody had a friend, Josh, who was looking for a senior dog to rescue as a companion for his older pittie. A single guy looking to save a senior dog is pretty much irresistible, and although Allie wasn’t a senior we hoped he would fall in love with her. He did. And he showed it, with gushing facebook posts and even buying a new couch just for Allie. So this lovely girl found an equally wonderful dad. We feel joy in our hearts every time we think of this match.
Sissy was surrendered to us when her mom had to flee a domestic violence situation. Barb fostered her for two months and really wasn’t sure if she could ever let her go. Then the perfect person came along. Leanne had lost her husband two months earlier and needed more dog love. Amazingly, Leanne’s husband had seen Sissy’s photo on our Facebook page when we first got her, the week he died. He commented how much she looked like Peach, their senior chihuahua. It couldn’t be more right that Sissy now belongs to Leanne—they have both been through so much. Now they have each other.
This young chestnut Boston Terrier was being offered up from a breeder down in Florence, Colorado. He had double cherry eye that needed surgical repair. We knew we would have no problem finding him a great home because of his youth and good looks. After a very short trial run we got word that Ryan and Heather were in love and Chauncey was in his forever home. It was meant to be. Just look at the resemblance!
We learned about Peanut (far left) from a concerned neighbor. Peanut’s owner was struggling and therefore Peanut was suffering. Angie cared enough to try to get help for Peanut. After some negotiations, Angie bought Peanut from her neighbor for $100 and gave him to us. We outfitted him with a snazzy new harness and found him a great home in Woodland Park. Peanut, now Scrappy, will enjoy a life of hiking in the mountains and playing with his two big siblings. Lucky boy!
Reishi was rescued from an Indian reservation in Arizona. She found a home with an EMT, who was a friend of our rescue friend, Amber. He came to the decision that he didn’t have time for a dog because of the demands of his work, so Amber asked us to help. Before we learned about Reishi, we were trying to help a young couple who was looking to adopt their very first dog. We were disappointed that our first attempt to find a dog for them fell through, but that made room for Reishi! They were going to foster her before making the big decision, but the minute they met her it was a done deal. She is a great dog for them. Everyone is happy!
A friend of our rescue, who distributes donated food and supplies to us, had this sweet young dachshund she was fostering, who had come from a neglectful situation in an apartment complex. We agreed to take her under our rescue wing, since our friend does so much for us. Darla was the friendliest little thing! She found a home with a doxie brother, who although older, loves to play as much as she does. Their mom works from home, so it’s a perfect situation. The frosting on the cake, so to speak, was when we saw Darla’s other future sibling with the most perfectly painted pink toenails! Darla, now Darlah with an h, no question will be doted on—as it should be.
Archie’s mom had moved into a crowded apartment and it wasn’t good for him. We offered to help. A young handsome guy like that, it would be easy to find him a home, right? But Archie was not easy! He had this loud high-pitched bark when he felt uncomfortable in public or when meeting new people. It scared away potential adopters and stressed out his foster families. Just as we were searching for his third foster placement, an Aussie-experienced couple inquired about adopting him. This was his best chance. They were committed to working on his issues. Even so, Archie’s barking had them questioning whether they could keep him. How overjoyed we were to hear that Archie had made enough progress that they were certain he was a keeper! We are so proud of you, Archie!
So many people had a hand in rescuing Benny. Cara got him off the chain that had tethered him for 8 yrs and brought him in from the sub-zero temperatures of Alaska. Karen sponsored his flight to Denver. Angela greeted him at the airport with love and food and explained during the 1 hour trip to Castle Rock what his new life was going to be like now. Mallory took her infant son, Conrad, on his very first rescue and completed the last leg of the trip, delivering Benny to his foster home in Divide. Taylor and Brandon hiked him, cuddled him, and got him to vet appointments and meet ’n greets. And finally, Matthew and Iris, the dream adopters we had hoped for, opened their home and hearts to our special boy. Bravo!
